Emissions monitoring conference programme released for Kuala Lumpur event in November

The full conference programme has been released for CEM Asia 2026, the International Conference and Exhibition on Emissions Monitoring.

It will take place at the KLCC exhibition centre in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from 17 to 19 November alongside AQUAMATE Asia.

Registration is free, and organisers are encouraging emissions and air quality professionals across the region to secure a badge ahead of the event.

The programme opens with keynote sessions from Ts. ChM. Dr Anuar bin Ishak, Principal Assistant Director of the Air Division at the Department of Environment Malaysia, and Bjarne Pedersen, Executive Director of Clean Air Asia, followed by a dedicated Department of Environment focus group on clean air regulation, also led by Dr Anuar bin Ishak.

Day one continues with Regulation, Standards & Compliance and Performance, QA & Data Integrity tracks, covering the European approach to quality assurance in emissions monitoring under EN 14181, a comparison of the European Industrial Emission Directive (IED 2.0) with local Asian regulation, the institutionalisation of continuous emissions monitoring systems (CEMS) in medium and small-scale industries, and current pollution monitoring regulations and practices from the Environment Agency Abu Dhabi (EAD).

Further sessions address EN 17255-certified data acquisition and handling systems (DAHS) for emissions data compliance, long-term sampling for dioxin, furan, PCB, mercury and heavy metal emissions, standardised emission data processing under DIN EN 17255, and portable FTIR technology for stack testing.

Day two turns to instrumentation, air quality and analytics.

Industrial Stack & Source Emissions and Next-Generation CEMS & FTIR sessions cover a decade of advances in optical gas imaging, a European waste-to-energy CEMS case study, dust monitoring in wet stack gas, evidence on air pollution emissions from Malaysia's energy sector, and the use of OFCEAS laser spectroscopy to reduce CEMS calibration requirements.

A parallel Air Quality and Air Pollution, Health & Exposure track features an International Union of Air Pollution Prevention and Environmental Protection Associations (IUAPPA) keynote, atmospheric microbiome research in traffic-impacted urban centres, air pollution case studies from Jakarta, and research into the molecular mechanisms behind PM2.5 toxicity.

The afternoon moves into artificial intelligence (AI) and digital transformation, with sessions on AI-driven hybrid approaches to emissions monitoring, the use of AI in air quality monitoring in the United Arab Emirates, digital twin modelling for vehicle emissions, machine learning analysis of shipping fuel consumption and CO₂ output, and satellite remote sensing for air quality monitoring in Malaysia.

Emerging Pollutants, VOCs & Trace Analysis sessions cover field-ready instrumentation for the EU's Directive 2024/2881 on VOC monitoring, CEMS best practice for mercury in Europe, and atmospheric PFAS dynamics across Taiwan and the East Asian coastal corridor.

Day three covers greenhouse gas monitoring, carbon trading and carbon capture, utilisation and storage, including the role of CEMS in strengthening emission trading systems and predictive emissions monitoring for the oil, gas and shipping sectors.

Fugitive, Methane & Process Monitoring sessions address validated methods for fugitive and diffuse methane emissions and methane mitigation strategies for oil, gas and landfill sites, while Particulate Matter & Dust Monitoring sessions cover QAL1-certified dust monitoring for dry stacks and particulate, dioxin and furan emissions from cement industries in Indonesia.

Speakers are drawn from national and regional regulators including the Department of Environment Malaysia and the Environment Agency Abu Dhabi, from international technology suppliers including ABB, ENVEA, Siemens, DURAG, Gasmet Technologies and Teledyne FLIR, and from universities and research institutes across Malaysia, the UK, China, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and beyond.
