New hydrogen-compensated carbon monoxide sensor in 5-series format with extended lifetime is ideal for harsh environmental conditions

03 Sep, 2025

MEMBRAPOR provides a vast array of different electrochemical gas sensors for more than 25 gases in a variety of housings. They have recently announced the launch of the new Vantage series, with the same dimensions as 5-series sensors.

The new housing has been developed thanks to the finest engineering and over a quarter of a century of gas sensor experience. The sensor has been designed to operate in the harshest conditions, such as environments with high humidities and temperatures as high as 60 °C.

The first sensor with Vantage housing is a CO sensor for use in flue gas/stack gas analysis; this is an H2-compensated, 4-electrode sensor with virtually no sensitivity to CO on the auxiliary electrode. Moreover, its temperature dependence can be kept flat, resulting in exceptionally precise ppm readings.

MEMBRAPOR sensors are renowned for lasting for many years and the new Vantage housing offers the additional advantage of featuring a replaceable filter. While a typical CO sensor will typically last for three or more years, the filter itself has a significantly lower lifespan. Once used up, nitric gases, such as NO2, can pass through, resulting in false negative signals. This is a dangerous situation; the resulting ppm reading may be far too low with respect to the current concentration of CO. In many applications, a filter has an approximate lifespan of 2 years, which is effectively the limit for critical measurement applications. Replacing the filter of Membrapor’s CO/VF-2000-4E can more than double the lifetime of the sensor.
