Air monitoring
Tighter environmental regulation of methane, CO₂ and industrial emissions is increasing demand for continuous gas analysers that can operate in the field. For instrument manufacturers, moving from a laboratory prototype to series production means building hundreds of analysers with consistent performance and reliable operation.
Many of these analysers use tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy (TDLAS). nanoplus DFB interband cascade lasers provide single-mode emission in the 3–5 µm mid-infrared range, where gases such as methane, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and formaldehyde show strong absorption bands. They are available at any customer-specified wavelength, and their low power consumption suits portable and battery-operated devices.
nanoplus has introduced a new OEM package to simplify laser integration and support the transition to series production.
Collimating a mid-infrared beam can contribute to assembly time and scrap. In the new package, the beam exits from the side of the housing, providing access for mounting the collimation lens. A wedged, anti-reflection-coated window minimises back reflections that can degrade measurement quality.
Field analysers need a stable laser wavelength as ambient conditions change. The package integrates a large thermoelectric cooler (TEC) for increased heat dissipation and an NTC sensor for precise temperature control. Direct mounting onto a customer-supplied heatsink supports a flat PCB layout and compact instrument design.
A PCB connector provides the electrical connection, eliminating the need to solder individual pins. This reduces assembly time and the risk of handling errors while making production steps easier to repeat. An onboard memory chip stores the laser's operating parameters.
The package geometry is designed for consistent assembly at volume. This helps manufacturers plan the transition from development to series production of gas monitoring systems. For applications requiring specific laser characteristics, nanoplus engineers can discuss requirements and suitable customisation options. Defining these interfaces early helps development and production teams establish how the laser will be installed, connected and aligned within the finished analyser.
The package builds on nanoplus DFB laser technology, with more than 20 years of experience and over 100,000 installations worldwide.
