New evapotranspiration sensor provides a new dimension in water monitoring technology

LI-COR Inc. will launch the new LI-710 Evapotranspiration Sensor, in June 2023. This new development marks a significant step forward in the measurement of the amount of water that moves from soil and plants into the atmosphere, or evapotranspiration (ET) to give it its technical term. Although measuring ET provides crucial data for a host of applications such as watershed management, drought monitoring, remote sensing verification, and calculating water budgets, it is not a common practice due to the complex procedure and cost, until now.

The LI-710 offers users a simplified and cost-effective device for performing direct measurement of actual ET with a level of precision compatible with conventional eddy covariance, considered to be the gold standard for collecting actual ET data. This sophisticated, yet user-friendly, instrument makes this highly important measurement both accessible and affordable to organisations that need to track water precisely and dependably.
