Smart sensor offers a boost for air quality monitoring

The GSD 19 smart gas sensor developed and manufactured by Dr. Födisch Umweltmesstechnik opens a new dimension in air quality monitoring. Encased in a compact weather-proof housing (dimensions: 13 × 8 × 13 centimetres), the GSD 19 measures precisely NO2 in ambient air (0…2,000 µg/m3) via an electrochemical cell. GSD 19 can be operated both indoors and outdoors (OAT: -20°C…+50°C) all year around. A high level of accuracy and long-term stability are guaranteed by the inbuilt gas conditioning and automatic zero-point setting.

The GSD 19 has been intensively field tested by a third party in an urban environment (funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy). The reference devices (public measuring stations) and the GSD 19 gas sensors were operated at city centre measuring points set at a variety of distances from traffic. The correlation coefficients determined and compared to certified NO2 reference measuring devices are greater than 0.9. The GSD 19 only requires a 12 V supply and it can be integrated via RS485 or via WLAN. Combination with Dr. Födisch Umweltmesstechnik’s FDS particulate matter measuring device (FDS 15/FDS 18) is easy to install and maintain. Multiple air quality monitoring devices can also be networked with one another. The GSD19 will be available from the third quarter of 2021.
