The CIR-4V is the most recent element of the CIR range manufactured by ATMOS Cy in France. Like its great brother the CIR-4, it allows day and night measurement of cloud cover as well as evaluation of the cloud ceiling for three different cloud altitude classes. The main difference is the use of motor aspirated pyrometers which raises the accuracy of the measures of ambient temperature. Moreover, the air flow protects optical inlets from dust or other obstructions. Measurement of cloud fraction could be useful for regular meteorological activities, in management of photo voltaic production, for definition of atmospheric stability classes in gas dispersion and for many climatologic issues.
