Taiwanese firm 'still dumping wastewater in Vietnam'

A Taiwanese firm which was accused of dumping wastewater into a Vietnamese river is still committing the offence, it has been claimed.

According to local inspectors, Vedan Vietnam, which manufactures monosodium glutamate, is continuing to spill wastewater into a river in Dong Nai province, despite being threatened with the confiscation of its wastewater discharge license.

The waste is being pumped into the river via an illegal draining system, reported thanhnienews.com.

Director for the Dong Nai deprtment of natural resources and environment Le Viet Hung pointed out that the firm has been fined previously by the organisation.

Local farmers have also submitted a total of 2,600 complaints and compensation demands, the website added.

In the US this week, the department of natural resources launched an investigation into the possible spillage of untreated wastewater into the Delaware River.
