Visitors to Antwerp show get active on explosion protection

Nov 17 2019

At the Transport & Logistics event from 15th – 17th October in Antwerp, Pyroban’s experts asked visitors ‘Are you active?’, encouraging organisations to rethink their approach to keeping people safe, in, or adjacent to, Zone 2 potentially explosive atmospheres.

“Explosion protection is needed in a wider range of industries than most people think, such as the chemical, pharmaceutical, coatings, beverage, waste and logistics industries, among many others,” says Karolina Kurzawa for Pyroban. “Our goal at this event in Belgium was to highlight the importance of active gas detection for mobile equipment in any materials handling operation with hazardous areas.”

“Without active gas detection in Zone 2, equipment operators are left unaware of the presence of potentially explosive gas or vapour,” says Karolina. This puts them, their colleagues and the whole supply chain at unnecessary risk.”

To show how Pyroban’s solutions can help businesses in Belgium to get active on safety, its exhibition stand included demonstrations of two active gas detection systems: system6000™ and Gascheka™.

Pyroban’s system6000 is a materials handling equipment conversion which can be applied to most makes and types of diesel or electric equipment and combines active gas detection with other specialist explosion protection technologies to help keep people safe in Zone 2 hazardous areas.

Gascheka, Pyroban’s active gas detection system for designated ‘safe areas’, can be fitted on site to equipment such as forklifts, cranes, shutters and shrink wrap machines. It can get users active in less than one day, making designated ‘safe areas’ even safer.

Both system6000 and Gascheka give audible and visible warnings to drivers of potentially dangerous levels of gas or vapour at 10% LEL (propane in air).  With these active systems, if 25% LEL (propane in air) is detected, the equipment will automatically be brought to a controlled stop, preventing explosions and protecting the driver.

“We’ve been protecting millions of people for five generations with explosion protection safety solutions,” says Karolina, explaining that 2019 marks 50 years since the start of the original ‘Project Pyroban’.
