A water quality award has been presented to one Colorado city by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

The City of Craig is being recognised with a Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF) award for Sustainable Public Health Protection for its significant investments into safe drinking water, including updating its drinking water treatment technologies.

Carol Rushin, EPA's acting regional administrator in Denver, said that the city offers a potent example of the type of investments that will help US communities provide safe drinking water for decades to come.

"The effort that has been made to improve drinking water treatment capabilities in Craig is a clear investment in the future health of the community," she stated.

A loan made as part of the DWSRF programme, which has been in place since 1987, was awarded to the city in 2008 to fund the improvement of its drinking water treatment facilities, which were deemed to be undersized and antiquated.
