The Danish Emergency Management Agency DEMA will soon monitor radioactivity in Greenland. In order to do so, DEMA will rely on ENVINET’s (Germany) solutions and introduce monitoring stations in Greenland to create a measuring network in addition to the Danish network already in place.

In Denmark, DEMA is responsible for monitoring radiation in the environment and, to this end, has operated a radiation monitoring system with local dose rate measuring stations and gamma-ray spectrometers for many years. This measuring network is to be extended by setting up measuring stations in Greenland to heighten radiation protection. Furthermore, DEMA is planning to replace the existing monitoring stations in Denmark with new measuring technology. The Greenland stations are to monitor the gamma dose rate, in addition to recording and analysing the gamma spectra online. The stations must meet the most important requirements by being quick and easy to install and commission, to facilitate operation at different sites as

necessary. The vast distance separating Greenland from Denmark and its limited access depending on the season mean that maximum reliability is required of the detection devices. Moreover, the extreme operating conditions will place the highest demands on the monitoring equipment.

ENVINET’s solution was selected from the systems offered by several candidates as it was best suited to the special requirements. ENVINET’s gamma dose rate monitoring station AGS421F and the SARA spectroscopic detection device AGS710F are to be deployed. The NMC_RAD software will be responsible for central control and analysis of the readings.
