The quality of the air we breathe is becoming more and more of a concern as we wake up to issues of pollution and the environment. Indeed, even China, which has historically been considered having some of the poorest air quality worldwide, is now entering a new era in air quality control. Slowly, we as a species are starting to understand that in order to take care of ourselves, we must take care of our planet.

This conscientiousness for our breathable surroundings has manifested itself in all sorts of forms. In Edinburgh, for example, special backpacks containing air monitors are being dispensed to volunteers, who take the bag with them throughout their day and even keep it by their bedside while they sleep, to gain a better overall picture of the air we breathe.

Of course, the atmosphere of our bedrooms may not be as vulnerable to pollutants or toxic materials as the wider atmosphere, but it still remains an integral backdrop to our lives and is probably the place we spend more time than anywhere else. Indeed, monitoring our domestic environments has become increasingly popular over recent years, and there is nowhere more deserving of our attention than the most important room in the house. As such, CubeSensors have come up with an innovative way to make sure we maximise the potential of our bedroom atmosphere.

What are CubeSensors?

CubeSensors are small cubes with inbuilt monitoring equipment which are designed for home use. The CubeSensor monitors everything from temperature to humidity, noise and light levels, as well as air quality and pressure. All this can be done remotely, to ensure that you are maximising the use of energy in your home, that your family isn’t disturbing the neighbours, that there isn’t somebody home when there shouldn’t be – and, crucially, that the air you are breathing is safe and healthy.

With this last point in mind, CubeSensors have now released an app, named Sleep, specifically designed for the bedroom to pinpoint exactly what it is that is keeping you up at night. By using the sleep tracking function, users will be able to monitor how slight changes in air pressure, quality, humidity or temperature or even just loud noises affect their sleep patterns.

With other interesting features such as a reminder that bedtime is approaching, an alarm for the morning and suggestions on how to make your bedroom more conducive to sleep before you turn in, the Sleep cubes are already proving to be hot property.

Ahead of the Game

The main competition to the new Sleep app on the CubeSensors model is Sense, which raised more than $2.5 million through a Kickstarter scheme that had targeted a mere $100,000. However, while Sense may have a solid financial backing, CubeSensors are ahead of their competition in two important ways.

Firstly, their software is capable of monitoring far more information than Sense … and most importantly, they have a finished product.
