New range of innovative gas sample coolers for high flow rates in extreme industrial conditions impresses ACHEMA audience

Sep 08 2022

Visitors to ACHEMA 2022 were thoroughly impressed by PSG’s new generation of sample gas coolers which went into production shortly before the exhibition began. PSG’s new MAK Process Series has a modular design to facilitate a remarkably efficient cooling capacity, even when flow rates and water concentration are extremely high.

The new sample coolers are ideal for safety related applications, such as the monitoring of O2 in in H2, H2 electrolysis and cargo-tank inertion. These applications all require reliable, safe and stable sample gas cooling, sometimes at very high flow rates, that provides the operator with as short a T90 time as possible, which is precisely what the MAK Process Series delivers.

PSG’s latest sample coolers offer a combination of proven and established components merged into an innovative structure which has led to a significantly advanced level of performance: With a flow rate of up to 500 l/h, at relative humidity of up to 40%, the cooler delivers, even under extreme conditions, a low and constant outlet dew point, which is crucial to achieve a precise measurement, especially in electrolysis applications because of H2O cross-sensitivity on WLD analysers.

These excellent results have been achieved thanks to a highly efficient stainless steel heat exchanger and a cooling cycle control that responds quickly to changing conditions. The new solution is rounded off by an additional temperature sensor that outputs the cooling block temperature as a signal in accordance with the SIL standard.

PSG, which stands for ‘Perfect Sample Gas’ has been developing and producing innovative solutions for gas analysis in emission measurement and process analysis technology for over 40 years. The product solutions, which are used worldwide, include gas sampling probes, heated analysis lines and gas coolers or gas conditioning systems. They also provide customised solutions, ranging from small sample preparation plates to turnkey analysis container solutions – from basic engineering to on-site commissioning.

“We are very pleased to have expanded our range of solutions for process coolers with the MAK Process C and thus to be able to provide a powerful solution for the rapidly growing market for hydrogen applications,” commented Managing Director Thorsten Reisinger on the market launch.
