Mr Steven Van de Broeck, from Cefic, The European Chemical Industry Council, presents "Water Policy Creates Monitoring Challenges"

Several legislative developments (EQS directive, surface water watch list, ...) have introduced the past years additional requirements for authorities with regard to the monitoring of all kind of chemicas and pharmaceutical substances in the environment. This poses very specific challenges e.g. with regard to the robustness of analytical methods or even requires the development of new monitoring methodologies.

Industry is confronted with more and more legislation that aims to regulate the emission of micro-pollutants via waste water increasing the need to monitor emissions of micro-pollutants like organic substances and metals. Hence emissions standards are typically set at very low levels, there is a need of reliable and reproducible analytical methods with a sufficiently low limit of quantification. During the session the challenges authorities and industry are facing with regard to monitoring of substances, will be further exemplified and discussed.

This conference will take place on Wednesday 18th November, 10.45-11.05am, Conference Room A.
