At this year’s Water, Wastewater and Environmental Monitoring (WWEM) conference in Telford, a number of awards were given out for excellence in various aspects of water monitoring. To learn a little more about their products, partnerships and why they came to WWEM, EnvirotechOnline took a walk around the exhibition floor to talk to some of the nominees.

On the second day of the show, we caught up with Ret Mathieson, Group Marketing Manager at Metasphere, about the ART Sewer, which received two nominations at WWEM, one for Most Innovative, Product or Digital Solution, and the Smart Network Monitoring award.

“ART Sewer is a level-monitoring solution for wastewater that we brought to market in January 2021. It consists of a hardware piece, your smart level sensor, and your data-analytics piece, where you get all your data collection and visualisation – it’s all built-in. This is what makes ART Sewer unique, it’s an all-in-one solution. Typically, in the industry, what you get are traditional solutions which require various parts from various suppliers that are combined to actually perform level monitoring. We've taken the approach of everything being formed into one, a revolutionised approach. We’re one of the first to do that.

More than this, it’s the system’s ability to predict. It’s not just about reactionary approaches, anymore. We can actually, with the data-analytics piece, start predicting and preventing things that are going to happen. It’s no longer: “Oh, well, a spill’s happened, so you need to go out and fix it.” With ART sewer, you can start saying: “Well, hang on a minute, there’s a blockage occurring!” It enables customers to be proactive, to clear blockages before they become spills. That’s the point: it’s all about sustainability, protecting the environment from spills altogether. It’s about zero spills.”

Finally, we chatted about the benefits of WWEM and why Metasphere felt it was necessary to attend, this year.

“For us, it’s the industry event. Being in the water and wastewater sector, it’s a fantastic opportunity to showcase products and to network, it brings everyone together. Especially, for us, it was exceptionally important after four years away to come back and to meet people in person – nothing can take away from that in-person interaction. So, besides the ART Sewer, we’ve launched the Point Yellow today, a brand new network control and automation solution that we’ve brought to market. This is a fantastic platform for us.

We’ve also provided speakers for the conference. It’s that knowledge exchange which WWEM offers. We feel that they do a fantastic mixt between exhibiting and exchanging knowledge. You are constantly learning from others in the industry, learning from colleagues on what’s new, what’s the latest thing.”

In 2024, WWEM will return bigger and better, graduating to the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) in Birmingham. For information on exhibiting at WWEM 2024, click here.
