The Hong Kong Science Museum today launched a new exhibition entitled bio-hydrogen production from
wastewater.
A special administrative region of the People's Republic of China, Hong Kong will play host to the exhibit until January 17th 2010, in a bid to enable members of the public to learn more about hydrogen technology.
This news comes after energy experts recently predicted that hydrogen will replace fossil fuels as the main source of energy supply for the world economy in the near future.
It has been claimed that if engineers can control the anaerobic reactor condition to suppress the bioactivities of hydrogen-consuming microorganisms, they should be able to harness hydrogen from
wastewater.
Several research teams are developing various hybrid two-stage processes to do so.
One of these involves generating bio-hydrogen from
wastewater at the first stage and using phototrophic bacteria for further hydrogen production or the well-established methanogenic process at the second stage.
