Advancing VOC detection: improving air quality monitoring in hospital and laboratory environments

PPM Technology has selected the ION SENSE MiniPID 2 10.0 eV sensor to enhance VOC detection within its environmental monitoring systems used across hospital and laboratory environments.

With more than 25 years’ experience specialising in formaldehyde and focusing on indoor air quality and safety in healthcare and laboratory environments, PPM Technology evaluated a range of available sensing technologies before selecting the MiniPID 2 10.0 eV sensor from ION SENSE, an ION Science brand.

The MiniPID 2 10.0 eV sensor was selected to work alongside PPM Technology’s own formaldehyde sensor, helping to differentiate between VOCs and support more accurate exposure monitoring.

During the evaluation process, several alternative sensors were unable to reliably detect the target gases under real-world conditions. The MiniPID 2 10.0 eV sensor demonstrated clear and consistent detection, providing the performance required for the application.

“We compared the many PID sensors available on the market and found that the MiniPID 2 10.0 eV sensor was most suited to our applications. The sensor is reliable, repeatable and provides accurate and repeatable measurement of the target VOCs where other competitors fell short. In fact, we have upgraded all our VOC sensors to ION SENSE PIDs,” commented Laura Roberts, Director of Chemistry, PPM Technology Ltd.

Integrated into PPM Technology’s PPMonitor systems, the MiniPID 2 10.0 eV sensor provides continuous VOC monitoring, data logging, reporting and automated alerts. Now deployed across multiple hospital sites in the UK and Ireland, the solution is set to expand globally across PPM Technology’s monitoring systems and the wider healthcare market.
