MCERTS, the Environment Agency`s Monitoring Certification Scheme has its first portable landfill gas analysers. Geotech (UK) reveals the first MCERTS portable landfill gas analysers to meet the EA`s "Performance Standards for Portable Emission Monitoring Systems" are the Geotech GA2000+ and GEM2000+. With MCERTS set to become the instrument performance
standard for Environmental Permitting Regulation (EPR) sites, landfill operators, local authorities and brownfield site contractors will welcome availability of suitable portable gas analysis equipment. Geotech also confirmed that users can upgrade many of the existing analysers currently in service.
For brownfield consultants, contractors and local authorities, additionally important is the news that all Geotech gas analysers, which measure flow, now meet CIRIA guidance to sample flow before a gas reading. Guidance is detailed in its publication, "Assessing risks posed by hazardous ground gases to buildings (revised) (C665)". Set to measure landfill gases which usually include methane, carbon dioxide, oxygen, carbon monoxide and hydrogen sulphide, Geotech gas analysers are also used for brownfield site investigation and gas sampling.
For that construction industry activity CIRIA guidance applies. Now consultancies and councils can comply with ease, thanks to Geotech product changes.
Speaking when handed the news of a satisfactory EA MCERTS audit, Geotech`s UK sales manager, Simon Sheridan said, “We are very pleased that for all users of Geotech gas analysers, the confirmation of performance to the demanding MCERTS standards will assist them in demonstrating full EA compliance. For our brownfield and consultancy customers who have been asking to sample gas to CIRIA guidelines, we now have a product available.”
