QED Environmental Systems, Inc., recently introduced the single-use Combo Core™ soil sampler which they specifically developed for field preservation VOC analysis. This new device will supersede the highly regarded QED Terra Core® soil sampler.

The Combo Core™ is moulded from virgin-grade polypropylene; it is QED’s first instrument that has attained PFAS-free designation, it is therefore the perfect solution collecting soil core samples for PFAS analysis as specified by various international norms including EPA Method 537M. The system can also sample for VOCs and SVOCs according to EPA methods 8260 and 8270 respectively.

The new instrument has retained the robust design and user-friendly T-shaped handle of the original, while providing several additional benefits to the user. The Combo Core™ is the only soil sampler that can collect both 5- and 10-gram samples using a single device, so there is no need to carry several different sampler sizes. Switching between the two sizes is simple; the operator simply lifts and twists the centre plunger to the necessary position.

David Kaminski, Senior Vice President at QED Environmental Systems, commented, ”Customer feedback has been critical to the development of our new Combo Core™ tool. We have been sure to retain all of the benefits that made the renowned Terra Core® system so popular with technicians, alongside addressing some of the challenges experienced with single-use samplers. ”

The new soil sampler was designed to make transfer quicker and easier. The barrel fits easily into standard 20ml and 40ml vials thereby reducing spillage considerably.

To lower the environmental impact of the single-use system, all Combo Core™ instruments are made with Bio-Tec EcoPure®, a unique biodegradable additive.
