Online biomass, O2 and pH – Keep an eye on everything that is going on in a shake flask microbial culture

The SFR vario by PreSens is the first measurement meter that allows not only oxygen and pH monitoring, but also online biomass measurements in your shaken culture. And using the continuous oxygen measurements the oxygen uptake rate (OUR) can be displayed in real time with the device software. This combination of functionalities makes it very interesting for media evaluation as well as process development and optimisation.

The SFR vario features optics for scattered light measurement to determine the biomass of the culture. Oxygen and pH measurements are done with pre-calibrated, optical O2 and pH sensors. These sensors are integrated in ready-to-use cultivation T-flasks and shake flasks sized 125 ml to 2,000 ml, which are read-out non-invasively through the transparent bottom of the vessels. The compact measurement device can be installed in any conventional shaker and is connected wirelessly, via Bluetooth, with a PC and the respective SFR vario software. The software allows controlling of up to 4 devices simultaneously and recording measurement values of up to 4 shake flasks.
