Metrohm presents the 886 Professional Reactor, a rugged and versatile flow-through reactor for fully automatic pre- and postcolumn derivatisations. The new reactor enables single- or multi-step derivatisations at any temperature between 25…120 ºC. The system features a variable reactor geometry allowing to adjust the reactor residence time of the reactants according to derivatisation kinetics.

The new reactor facilitates post-column chemistry for any liquid chromatography system. Methods can be developed and optimised in terms of reagent concentration, flow rates and reactor residence time of the resulting mixture. Key benefits of the 886 Professional Reactor are: broad application range; high derivatisation yields; suitability for complex matrices; derivatisations at high temperatures; traceability of results due to chip-based intelligence.

The flexibility of the new reactor has been demonstrated by optimising four widespread post-column techniques: the relatively slow ninhydrin reaction with amino acids and the fast derivatisations of silicate, bromate and chromate(VI). Further details are provided in a technical poster.
