The new IONICON (Austria) fastGC offers a seamless combination of a fast Gas Chromatographic separation and real-time, extremely sensitive trace gas analysis by IONICON PTR-TOFMS series instruments.

fastGC is the winner of the Gases & Instrumentation International Magazine’s 2015 Golden Gas Award in the category Gas Chromatography.

IONICON PTR-TOF systems are capable of measuring trace gas samples in real-time with a high mass resolving power. The new “fastGC” module adds an optional chemical pre-separation step before the analysis.

The module consists of a short GC column with an advanced heating concept for ultra-fast heating and equally fast cooling rates which makes this pre-separation step nearly real-time.

The fastGC module is integrated with the PTR-TOF and the normal sample gas inlet is utilised. This allows researchers to perform real-time measurements and add fastGC runs at time points of interest for enhanced separation and identification.

“A fastGC’s spectral run is done in less than one minute! This brings gas chromatographic separation much closer towards real-time analysis and adds another dimension to PTR-TOFMS. We’re proud to receive the 2015 Golden Gas Award for this achievement and will continue to push the frontiers in analytical science.”, IONICON CEO Lukas Märk comments the recognition from the G&I magazine’s jury.

This year’s competition attracted more than 35 entries in 6 categories. The products are judged by a panel of independent technical experts not affiliated with any product or manufacturer. They rate each product on its ability to solve an important challenge to the gas industry, such as technological innovativeness, superior specifications in terms of power requirements, speed, maintenance, cost effectiveness, and other quality considerations.
