Xylylcarb is a carbamate pesticide that is derived from carbamic acid. Carbamate pesticides work similarly to organophosphate insecticides by inhibiting the actions of cholinesterase enzymes, which are essential to proper nerve function in insects. As a class of pesticides, carbamates have been used in homes, gardens and agriculture since 1956. Some of them are easily translocated among different parts of the plants upon which they are applied, making them a good method of systemic pest control.

Once in the body, xylylcarb is hydrolyzed by enzymes in the liver, and the by products are excreted by both the liver and kidneys.
