Cal Sensors (USA) announces the launch of MIRA4, a four-color lead selenide (PbSe) sensor that provides industry-leading sensitivity of 1.5E10 Jones in the detection of up to four distinct gases in the 1.0 to 5.5 µm infrared region. Available worldwide, MIRA4combines superior sensitivity with potential cost savings and low cross talk in a hermetically-sealed, industry-standard T05 package.

MIRA4 is well-suited for use in a variety of applications including industrial analysis, auto and aviation emissions analysis, underground applications (such as mining tunnels and walkways) and general industrial environmental monitoring (such as smoke stacks and assembly lines).   MIRA4’s quad configuration allows users to customize filters and select four distinct gases for monitoring, generating significant cost and space savings over the use of four individually packaged detectors but without the expense of a more complex array,” explained Brian Elias, Director of Engineering at Cal Sensors.   “Additionally, MIRA4’s sensitivity is greater than pyroelectric material and are competitively priced.”   Compared to the use of four individual element detectors, MIRA4 can reduce sensor cost in a system by as much as 60%.  Cost savings are generated as a result of the elimination of the need to purchase four separate packages or address four separate sets of optics.   To prevent potentially damaging exposure to harsh elements, the MIRA4 package is hermetically sealed, providing enhanced long term durability even in rugged industrial environments. Accuracy is also enhanced by MIRA4’s low cross talk of less than one half of one percent, ensuring that the optical and electrical interference between the four detectors is minimal.   Each of the four detectors in the MIRA4 measures 1mm2 and the cluster fits into a single industry standard T05 package with dimensions of 8.2mm in diameter and 6.3 mm in over height. The small package size and low power requirements enable integration into portable analysis and measurement systems. Comprehensive technical support for MIRA4 is available and includes product design and installation consultation.
