Residents in Kilmarnock have expressed their concern about local
water quality after they noticed their drinking supplies had become discoloured.
The Kilmarnock Standard recently reported that a number of Scottish Water customers in the area had seen the presence of colour in their running water.
Scottish Water has since confirmed that it has joined forces with East Ayrshire Council's
environmental health team, the Drinking
Water Quality Regulator and the consultant in Public Health Medicine at NHS Ayrshire and Arran to resolve the issue, caused by burst pipes in the area.
It has said that is "working around the clock to repair burst and leaking mains pipes".
The water giant also reassured residents that the discolouration does not mean a drop in the
water quality, saying: "The discoloured water is not a health issue and is purely aesthetic."
Scottish Water added that it is currently making alterations to its Amlaird Water Treatment Works to tackle the problem.
