Aeroqual (New Zealand) recently announced the AQM 65 compact air monitoring station. Building on the success of the forerunning AQM 60, the 65 is targeted at government and industry in rapidly industrialising nations where access to reliable air quality information is sorely needed but often lacking.

According to the Asia Development Bank (2014), in Asia alone 50% of cities do not have effective air monitoring systems. Reference-standard air monitoring stations built on US EPA-type analysers are beyond the budgets of most governments and companies, while alternative low cost air monitors have failed to demonstrate accuracy, traceability and durability in the field.

Aeroqual’s AQM 65 introduces a new category of air monitoring called ‘Near Reference’ which addresses this need. The AQM 65’s high performance compares favourably with US and European reference standards, but is up to five times less expensive than a reference station built on analysers. This compact air monitoring station is also light enough to be carried by a single person, and can be installed in less than 30 minutes.

The AQM 65 builds on the ground-breaking AQM 60, introduced in 2008, which is measuring air quality in over 300 locations worldwide. The new 65 model offers significant improvements in sensor performance, enhanced ability to operate reliably in even hotter and colder climates, and a powerful new user interface that harnesses the latest in cloud computing.

Carl Beck, VP Sales, Marketing and Customer Support at Aeroqual says, “The AQM 65 represents years of accumulated knowledge from operating low cost sensors in rugged environments globally. With this latest design we have delivered on the two primary demands of our customers: highest possible data quality, and less cost and complexity.”

Key features of the AQM 65 include:

* 1ppb detection of O3, NO2, NOx; <10ppb for SO2, H2S, and VOCs

* Able to be field calibrated against Standard Reference Materials

* Extended operating range of -30°C to +50°C

·         Free cloud based data acquisition and diagnostic software

·         Compact and quick to set up (start measuring in <1 hour)

·         Unlimited and free access to Aeroqual’s online learning system.
