Weather monitoring
R.M. Young Company has acquired SensorLogic, the developer of SNOdar, one of the most advanced snow depth sensors available today. This acquisition enhances R.M. Young’s prestigious range of precision meteorological instruments with field-proven technology.
SNOdar is renown for its high accuracy and durability in measuring snow depth and new snowfall, even under severe winter conditions. It is among the few snow depth sensors that uses LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) technology, enabling real-time, detailed snow measurements. It is also unique due to its ability to estimate snow water equivalent (SWE).
The sensor can be configured for a variety of roles, including distance sensing, storm-board snowfall measurement, and seasonal snow depth monitoring. A companion mobile app facilitates rapid setup, configuration, and real-time data viewing via Bluetooth.
SNOdar supports real-time data transmission via RS-232 and SDI-12 interfaces and is compatible with multiple telemetry systems. It includes an internal data logger capable of storing an entire season’s data. Compact and lightweight, it is designed for harsh environments and functions at temperatures as low as -40°C, with power consumption below 0.5 watts making it ideal for remote, low-power installations.
Founded in 2006 in Bozeman, MT., USA, SensorLogic develops radar-based remote sensing technologies for industrial, environmental, medical, and consumer applications. The company has served a wide variety of clients, ranging from startups to Fortune 500 firms.
Doug Roberts, founder of SensorLogic, stated, “We are thrilled to partner with R.M. Young Company. This collaboration presents a fantastic opportunity to integrate our snow depth and snow water equivalent technology with the expertise of such a respected company. I’m excited to unite our teams and resources to deliver innovative monitoring solutions that address the challenges of a changing climate.”
Eric Mannix, President of R.M. Young Company, commented: “Integrating SNOdar into our product line aligns with our commitment to pushing the boundaries of innovation in meteorological instrumentation. This addition allows us to offer our customers cutting-edge solutions for accurate snow measurement, meeting the evolving needs of various industries.”
This integration reflects R.M. Young’s continued focus on delivering reliable, high-performance solutions for environmental data collection.
