Educational webinar to highlight winter weather monitoring tools and techniques

R.M. Young Company, the globally renowned weather monitoring specialists, is hosting its inaugural webinar: “Reimagining Snowfall: Introduction to SNOdar”, to take place on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at 8:00 AM/ 2:00 PM CEST and 1:00 PM EDT/ 7:00 PM CEST. This will mark the first of a three-part educational series focusing on innovative tools and techniques for winter weather monitoring.

The opening session will examine the technical and operational characteristics of SNOdar, R.M. Young’s latest LiDAR-based sensor for measuring snow depth in difficult winter environments. Presented by Andy Oliver (Director of Product & Applications Management) and Ed DiFilippo (Vice President of Global Sales & Marketing), the session will provide a thorough overview of the instrument’s measurement principles, engineering design, and performance in field deployments.

The webinar’s program will consist of:

• A brief history of snow measurement methods 

• How SNOdar works and how it compares to traditional methods 

• Key technical features and setup best practices 

• Practical use cases in solar, skiing, and environmental sectors 

• A discussion about upcoming features, including future eSWE functionality

The event will also include live polls, a Q&A session, and a look at how SNOdar facilitates safe operations and data-driven decisions in snow-prone regions.

This will be the first of a three-part webinar series on snow measurement and monitoring, providing professionals in environmental science, research, utilities, and winter operations with some practical insights ahead of the winter season in the Northern Hemisphere.
