New Turbidity Probe Reduces Sensor Fouling in Biologically Active Environments

May 16 2012

The OBS500 submersible turbidity probe from Campbell Scientific (UK) has active anti-fouling capabilities for better measurements in biologically active water with both high and low turbidity.

It utilises backscatter and sidescatter techniques to measure turbidity and incorporates the CleanSensor anti-fouling method which includes an integrated shutter/wiper mechanism that only exposes the lens during measurement to reduce exposure to algae and other organisms. Additionally, a refillable chamber leaches biocide across the lens to further reduce fouling. An optional plastic sleeve is available that simplifies cleaning and an optional copper sleeve offers even greater protection, particularly in seawater.

Sensor outputs is SDI12 for easy connection to any compatible datalogger.
