Within a changing UK water and environmental management sector these discussions will lead to a consolidated voice as well as underpinning the growing ambitions of both organisations.
Both organisations work in the UK and internationally to represent the water and environmental management sector:
• CIWEM, the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management, is a world-leading, Royal Chartered body that awards Chartered status and supports professional water and environmental managers, environmentalists, scientists and engineers;
• British Water is the leading trade association representing the UK companies in the
water and environmental management supply chain.
“There is compelling logic in bringing together our two interdependent bodies” said Jim Oatridge OBE, CIWEM Chairman. “Cooperation will enhance the impact of both professional water and environmental managers and companies in promoting UK expertise in global markets in areas such as water and environmental consultancy, water and sanitation management, product development and contract services.”
“Cooperation between our organisations will provide benefits to companies in the UK supply and management chain when meeting the challenges of emerging trends in the UK and internationally” said Tony Williams, British Water Chairman.
In many cases British Water member companies employ CIWEM professionals and in a rapidly changing water and environmental management sector this will demand the education and professional development of a greater number of water and environmental practitioners.
Both Boards anticipate that these closer working arrangements will be in place by autumn 2015.
