The Environment Agency has announced that a polluter of the Bramley Brook has been fined over £17,000.

Thomas Gaskin, operating as TG Commercials in South Yorkshire, was found guilty of reducing the water quality of the Brook under the Water Resources Act 1991 and Environmental Protection Act 1990.

It was fined a total of £15,000 and also ordered to pay costs of £2,783.59.

The company was fined after the Environment Agency received notifications of oil on the Maltby Dike.

Officers entered the site of the company and inspected the de-polluting area.

"This was found to be poorly maintained with pools of standing water contaminated with oil and an oil stained channel leading from the area directly to the Bramley Brook," the agency said.

Later this month, the Environment Agency will be holding a flood awareness event and exhibition in Hertfordshire.
