Water and
wastewater rates for residents of Sudbury, Ontario are set to rise, it has been claimed.
Northern Life reported that if approved by the city's council, a rise of 5.8 per cent could hit those living in the area.
This would equate to the average annual water bill of $1,066 (£571) rising to $1,128.
Councillor Frances Caldarelli commented that it is highly likely that the increase will be approved.
"The only way for us to take down this increase is to decrease the costs of providing the service," he added.
A total of 40 per cent of the council's budget goes on water and
wastewater treatment, distribution and collection.
Last week, the successful progress of a natural wetland that processes
wastewater was reported upon in the US.
The project cost a total of $7 million (£4.8 million) and has attracted birds and the growth of plants in the process.
