Bosses at Water UK have allayed fears that restrictions could be put on the use of water this summer.

The organisation, which oversees water and wastewater companies across Britain, has said that such drastic action is unlikely.

This is despite reports that 2010 was one of the driest years in history and 2011 looks set to follow the same pattern.

A recent statement from the regulatory body stated that companies had reported declining levels in reservoirs, but this would not be enough to sanction hosepipe bans or other restrictions.

Despite this, Water UK has urged people to remain vigilant and not be frivolous, as an increasing number of homeowners are expected to start using water on their gardens in the coming weeks.

The Met Office yesterday (May 3rd 2011) revealed April 2011 was the warmest on record, with the average temperature reaching 10.7 degrees C, while only 36.7mm of rain fell across the UK during the month.
