A conference being held today (October 24th) in the US will examine the potential of a self-sustaining wastewater treatment device, it has been reported.

The Water of Life conference, taking place at the Omega Institute, aims to find a definitive solution to the world's clean water needs.

Skip Backus, executive director of the institute, commented: "We are living in a time when the lack of fresh, clean water is not just a problem for the developing world, but a problem we all face throughout the globe."

Among the keynote speakers at the two-day event will be Robert F Kennedy Jr, senior attorney for the Natural Resources Defense Council and president of the Waterkeeper Alliance.

John Todd, developer of the Eco Machine, will also speak. In 1999, Mr Todd named a Hero of Earth by Time magazine.

The Omega Institute aims to promote health and healing among individuals and society through innovative education experiences.
