A joint venture (JV) between Orascom Construction Industries (OCI) and Spanish group Aqualia have been awarded the contract for the New Cairo
wastewater project in Egypt.
Reuters reports that news of the accepted bid was relayed by local news provider MENA this week.
Earlier this week, OCI announced that its 50-50 JV - which will operate under the name Orasqualia - had been announced as the best financial bidder, as examination of all the tender bids entered the final evaluations.
The OCI-Aqualia bid was valued at 2.585 billion EGP (£0.285 billion) and included the engineering, procurement and construction of the plant, as well as operating and maintenance costs.
Tendered by Egypt's ministry of finance, the public-private partnership contract will run for 20 years.
Earlier this month, the launch of a new £25.4 million water project, called the Sligo Town
Wastewater Treatment Scheme, was announced in Ireland.
