The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced plans to invest $38.9 million in water projects, as part of a bid to boost the economy and protect public health in Wyoming.

Money will be provided as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 and will go towards financing overdue improvement works.

President Obama signed the act in February of this year and said it would be implemented with unprecedented transparency.

Carol Rushin, acting regional administrator for the EPA, said the government is pleased to provide the money and claimed it will benefit the state for decades to come.

"This funding will protect public health and improve water quality while creating hundreds of green collar jobs in Wyoming," she added.

It was reported by MSNBC last week that money has also been pledged to help improve Chesapeake Bay, the largest estuary in the US.
