A wastewater plant on Lake Ontario in Canada has said it will cost around $6.4 million to solve a problem that has seen it release abnormal levels of ammonia and ammonium nitrogen into the lake.

This price quote for Brighton's wastewater plant was from CH2M HILL and will involve the implementation of a side stream unit which can be moderated over time to cope with increasing volumes in the future.

Consultant Tim Constantine explained that it will "treat a portion of the lagoon flow before it discharges to the existing constructed wetland for final polishing before it discharges to Presqu'ile Bay Wetland and Lake Ontario".

It appears that this modification option will be chosen above the alternative of building a new plant at the cost of $25 to $35 million, reported communitypress.ca.

Meanwhile, 100 per cent of water samples from the supplies of citizens in Lahore, Pakistan, were found to be contaminated with bacteria, arsenic and iron by researcher Anita Chaudhry.
