The flood and coastal risk management conference will help limit the number of floods in the UK, according to an environmental expert.

A representative from the Environment Agency, which will hold the event with Defra, suggested that the conference intends to inform industry professionals about new ways to work with people who could be affected by floods to avoid problems.

Director of flood Robert Runcie said: "This year will also provide the opportunity to share best practice, practical demonstrations and technology solutions."

The conference, which will take place between June 29th and July 1st 2010, will address the problem of coastal erosion in the UK.

Industry professionals, academics, government representatives and people who have been affected by floods are invited to attend the conference in order to establish new approaches to reducing damage and new technologies to cope with climate change.

On November 19th 2009, the Cumbrian town of Cockermouth was hit by heavy floods which damaged around 750 properties as waters rose to 2.5 metres.
