A project to improve the water quality at a lake in Northamptonshire is set to go ahead.

Northamptonshire Borough Council has joined together with the Environment Agency to transform Little Billing Lake.

Work will begin next month on removing silt from the waterway in an attempt to increase the lake's depth, as well as the speed Billing Brook can flow through it.

The agency's operations delivery team leader Kevin O'Neil said the initiative, which is expected to cost around £118,000, will help boost the lake's water quality for both people and wildlife.

"During the works, we will be removing around 5,000 tonnes of silt from the lake. This will not only help to restore the water body but will also reduce flood risk," he stated.

Last week, work began to transfer large fish from a lake at Wilton Park in Batley in an attempt to improve its water quality by reducing overcrowding in the watercourse.
