SGX Sensortech developed their digital infrared INIR2 and INIR4 refrigerant gas sensors to be economical, precise, reliable and user friendly. These sensors have been designed to detect refrigerant gas leaks from residential and commercial buildings and they have been brought about using the most contemporary, power-efficient microcontrollers for enhanced versatility and functionality. SGX have added temperature compensation, precision and ease-of-use to produce an ideal solution for refrigerant gas leak detection, particularly R32, which has become far more ubiquitous in HVAC systems.

R32 (difluoromethane) has about a third of the Global Warming Potential (GWP) of R410A; it is also cheaper, easier to handle and more efficient. However, while its environmental impact is a major improvement on R410A, it is still a case of being the lesser of two evils, so it is crucial that any leaks of R32 are detected promptly and accurately.
