Biogas analyser performance proven at exhibition

Jul 10 2013

At last year's ADBA exhibition Geotech launched the GA3000 PLUS fixed biogas analyser, which resulted in a successful event for Geotech. After it generated a great deal of interest in 2012, it made another show-stopping appearance at ADBA 2013.

Speaking about this year’s show, Geotech said “We were pleased to see a rise in both quality and number leads for our fixed GA3000 PLUS analyser and BIOGAS 5000 portable biogas analyser. Along with these leads we were very happy to catch up with a number of our existing customers who are seeing the benefits of both devices.”

Building on the proven technology of its widely-used predecessor, the GA3000, the ATEX certified GA3000 PLUS offers monitoring of CH4, CO2, O2 and optional H2, H2S and CO. It also offers up to three samples points, allowing for the monitoring of multiple digesters. The range of H2S cells from 0-50ppm to 0-10,000ppm, coupled with the multiple sample points, also makes it ideal for monitoring pre- and post-desulphurisation.

Users of the earlier GA3000 continue to enjoy the benefits of biogas monitoring. Arrash Shirani of React Environmental commented "It has also been very useful for determining the health of the system and showing us how effective different system configurations are e.g. different digester operating temperatures." He continued, "We built the plant as a prototype and demonstration unit so we needed to monitor the process carefully and be able to show potential clients how effectively it is working."

The GA3000 PLUS can also play a vital role in CHP restart and protection by detecting sudden gas level changes. Plant Manager, James Wood, from Harper Adams Energy found that in using the earlier GA3000, he was able to manage his plant more effectively and could avoid unplanned CHP downtime at a direct revenue loss of some £2000/day (11.8MWh of electricity).

The GA3000 PLUS is recommended for anyone looking for robust and reliable equipment to avoid costly CHP downtime, for ensuring desulphurisation equipment is working efficiently, and for all AD biogas monitoring needs.

Those looking for a portable solution to their monitoring needs will benefit from the BIOGAS 5000. Also making its exhibition debut at ADBA last year, it was back again for 2013 demonstrating some new features that have been added since its first release. The ATEX certified BIOGAS 5000 combines accurate measurement of three key gases, CH4, CO2, O2, plus optional H2S, temperature and flow, with an easy to use layout. The impressive range of H2S measurement from 0-50ppm to 0-10,000ppm makes it ideal for measuring biogas in a variety of applications. It now features data logging functionality as well as a quick gas reading mode and choice of user settings.

David Allan of Future Biogas certainly hasn't looked back. He stated "we had tried a similar unit from Germany, but we preferred the Geotech. I find the unit to be robust, accurate and easy to operate. The BIOGAS 5000 is a great improvement to its predecessor, one of which we also own. The increased portability is its best feature for me."

Both the GA3000 PLUS and BIOGAS 5000 have been fine-tuned to provide highly accurate biogas monitoring across a variety of applications, with visitors at ADBA reporting on both analysers performing to a high standard on site.
