There needs to be more done to make a greater number of British properties energy efficient and improve their
environmental analysis results, it has been said.
Andrew Leech, director at the National Home Improvement Council, said not enough people are looking to make energy-saving changes to their houses.
He stated that there is a "hell of a long way to go" if the country is going to achieve its 2050 targets of having 80 per cent of the 26 million-strong housing stock energy-efficient.
Indeed, the Renewable Energy Foundation revealed earlier this month that Britain failed to meet its ten per cent renewable electricity target for 2010, only producing 6.5 per cent.
Mr Leech stated that reaching goals could be achieved by implementing low-carbon changes such as installing solar panels, photovoltaic cells and ground source heat pumps.
He went on to suggest homeowners should be looking at introducing energy-saving measures when they consider renovating their houses, as this is "going to pay dividends in the long run".
