There could be new
environmental legislation to build a supergrid connecting sources of renewable energy in Europe, it has been suggested.
According to the UK media relations manager at the National Grid Stewart Larque, the UK will have links with other countries in the future.
He said: "There's already a link between the UK and France and last year we announced that we are working with Statnett, which is the Norwegian national grid, on looking at developing an interconnector between the UK and Norway."
His comments come after energy watchdog Ofgem stated last week that more needs to be done to improve sustainable energy use in the UK.
It called for investment in pipes and cables in order to rewire the UK and improve its use of renewable energy.
Ofgem predicted that
environmental legislation will have to demand more than £200 billion to be spent during the next decade for the UK to move to a low-carbon economy.
