The North Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) has launched its Sustainable Development Fund in the region for the fifth year.
Designed to offer small grants towards environmental projects in the area, the North Devon AONB is calling for community groups, businesses, individuals and public sector bodies to apply for help from the fund.
Successful initiatives will be provided with up to 75 per cent of the total project costs to a value of £10,000.
The organisation noted that it would especially like to support schemes that promote North Devon's 50th year of AONB designation.
Essential criteria for submissions include proving that it is sustainable and that it will benefit the AONB.
The North Devon Gazette reported that projects focusing on biodiversity in the region will be particularly welcome, because the UN has designated 2010 as the International Year of Biodiversity.
During this year, the UN will be running a series of events to promote global biodiversity and encourage nations to better understand the value that a diverse range of species can provide.
