Enviro Technology has seen a boost to orders for its CEMS equipment from companies affected by the revised legislation, which applies to all existing plants greater than 50MW, covering emissions of SO2, NOx
and particulate matter. The new limits apply from January 2008 and still-lower limits will apply in 2016.
In August last year ET installed 11 (CEMS) at Uskmouth Power in Wales and Saltend Cogeneration, Hull. Both plants were upgrading their old CEMS systems in response to the LCPD and to meet the emissions monitoring procedures and processes detailed in EN 14181.
One of the cleanest coal-fired power stations in the UK, Uskmouth Power generates around 360MW, enough for 360,000 homes in Newport and the
surrounding area.
ET has worked with the plant for more than eight years, supplying OPSIS CEMS systems that measure sulphur dioxide levels before and after entering the plant’s Flue Gas Desuplhurisation facility. The company advised the plant on themost reliable, cost-effective CEMS systems for their coal-fired boilers, monitoring six outlet ducts, two from each boiler. The new Uskmouth systems comprise OPSIS AR600, AR650 Cross-Duct Analysers, OPSIS O2000 Oxygen Probes and Durag DR800 Dust Monitors.
As well as the need to comply with the new LCPD, Saltend Cogeneration needed to reduce the time and costs associated with maintaining a CEMS system.
ET’s solution involved supplying five new systems including the OPSIS AR600, AR650 Cross Duct Analysers and OPSIS O2000 Oxygen Probes which the company estimates has resulted in a potential saving of £100,000
over five years, in maintenance and operation costs.
Enviro Technology’s operations director, Duncan Mounsor commented,
“Many more industrial, process and combustion plants have been contacting ET regarding their CEMS. Our 24 year experience in this
industry enables us to offer clients bespoke CEMS technology that ticks all of the right boxes.”
