Leading air quality specialist, Duvas Technologies, have unveiled the findings of a series of UK fracking site fenceline reports at the Energy, Utility & Environment Conference (EUEC 2018) which took place recently in San Diego
Utilising next-generation ultraviolet differential optical absorption spectroscopy (DOAS) technology, the report details real-time volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions from some of Britain’s most active fracking sites, including Wharles, Singleton and Little Plumpton.
Alongside showcasing results of the study, Tayyaba Rizvi, senior applications engineer at Duvas, delivered a presentation on innovations in fenceline monitoring for fugitive emissions. She also discussed the potential health implications of exposure to VOCs such as benzene.
Rizvi’s keynote speech and the subsequent fenceline report follows the recent publication of statistics by the US EPA, which conclusively links benzene exposure with cases of chronic leukaemia.
Speaking about the conference, Steve Billingham, CEO of Duvas Technologies, commented: “Our fenceline monitoring report, taken at some of the UK’s most active fracking sites, represents an important milestone for Duvas. Through the use of portable monitoring equipment, we’ve gained unique insight into the air quality risks associated with fracking.”
