CoGDEM, the Council of Gas Detection & Environmental Monitoring, has announced the retirement of Director & Administrator Leigh Greenham after spending more than two decades with the trade association.
CoGDEM was formed in 1974 to allow manufacturers and other companies involved with gas detecting instruments to work together to help write standards, regulations and guidance. Starting in the area of industrial workplace protection, CoGDEM then developed a sub group to deal with domestic carbon monoxide (CO) detection.
During the 1990s while working as Technical Director of Crowcon Detection Instruments Ltd, Leigh was Chairman of CoGDEM’s Industrial Sub Group. When he became an independent consultant in 2005 he was asked to take on the day-to-day running of the whole organisation.
Leigh commented “I was able to bring my knowledge of workplace protection into the area of domestic gas detection, and over my years with CoGDEM this has involved me with British and European Parliamentarians and regulators, medics and researchers as well as working closely with the broadcast media. One particularly memorable event was taking part in a Channel 4 documentary looking for carbon monoxide emissions in a Roman villa.”
Leigh added “It is great to see the gas detection industry in good health with innovative products coming to market, and regulations continuing to provide an excellent basis for the protection of workers and workplaces, as well as domestic properties, homeowners and tenants.”
