Anglian Water Chooses Ammolytplus
Aug 30 2010
Anglian Water has one of the largest geographic catchments of all UK water companies providing potable and waste-water treatment to more then 5 million domestic and commercial customers.
The company has extensively installed on-line instrumentation to mechanise process control and to provide continuous measurement where compliance needs to be demonstrated. Consideration has more recently been given to the use of instrumentation to more efficiently regulate process control, reduce energy consumption and reduce the associated cost of treatment.
As energy costs have increased, alternative control philosophies have been instigated. The use of continuous ammonia measurement within the aeration ditch to provide real-time aeration control based on ammonia concentrations has been implemented.
Following extensive product evaluation by AWS, the ammolytplus technology was selected for an installation at a number of sites including Charlton, Leighton Linslade and Chantry to accommodate feed forward and feedback control.
At Leighton Linslade, effluent from the aeration ditch is used to dilute effluent from the percolating filters to maintain combined effluent within a tight consented limit. It is therefore important to control the aeration process correctly to maintain a target concentration of 2.0mg/L as N and the feedback sensor location was installed for this purpose.
Further subsequent field trials conducted by AWS also confirmed that the ammolytplus instrumentation from Pollution & Process Monitoring (UK) was capable of reliable trending for effluents at low concentrations. A number of installations have now been made to give real-time effluent monitoring.
