Wastewater system commissioned for world's largest cruise ship
Sep 24 2009
STX Europe, which is based in Turku, Finland and was formerly known as Aker Yards ASA, has signed a contract with the engineering and manufacturing company for the finalisation and commissioning of a system for the Oasis of the Seas cruise ship, which is being built for Royal Caribbean International.
All laundry wastewater produced onboard will be treated to a higher quality than the Alaska State Discharge Standards, which are currently the most stringent internationally.
STX Europe vice-president Sami Hautala said that when the liner's original system supplier was unable to complete the project in August, the firm were very relieved when the Headworks Bio team quickly stepped in.
"On many levels, Oasis of the Seas is a world-class engineering feat, including the unique biological system for treating its wastewater," he stated.
