Scottish Water has confirmed that a £22 million treatment project to produce high water quality for residents in Lanarkshire has now come to an end.

Daer and Coulter treatment site has been fully commissioned and extensive work that was being undertaken at the plant has now been completed.

The initiative was intended to improve the quality of the drinking water for the 250,000 people across Lanarkshire.

Project manager at Scottish Water Solutions Peter Finnigan said that that now the water treatment works will now be able to produce 129 million litres of water every day, compared with 114 million litres that it previously produced daily.

He stated: "This will help Lanarkshire expand by enabling more connections to be made to the water supply and allowing communities across the region to grow and thrive."

Another water treatment programme Scottish Water is currently working on is at Glencorse in Midlothian, which is part of the Edinburgh Drinking Water Project.

A new water treatment site is expected to be built to replace ageing storage tanks and provide water to residents in Edinburgh.
