People living in Leeds have been asked to give their opinion on the building of an incinerator at a wastewater treatment site in the area.

Leeds City Council has called residents in the east Leeds area to attend drop-in sessions to learn more about the proposals for the waste plant at the sewage treatment site in Knostrop or at an area in Pontefract Lane.

The local authority plans to build the plant in an attempt to produce electricity by burning household waste.

Susan Upton, the council's head of waste management, said: "We want local people to come along, express their opinions and find out as much as possible about what this scheme is all about."

She added that the views of the local residents are "vital" for the future of the plans.

Earlier this week, Thames Water revealed that a wastewater plant in Didcot will be used to supply heat to more than 200 homes in the area by generating biomethane gas during the treatment process.
